Mike has spent his life immersed in sport. As Director of Sport in a leading Independent School, He has a wealth of coaching experience and over a decade’s worth of experience in professional sporting environments.

Mike has proven himself as a successful coach, he has won a wide variety of national and regional titles in sports including triathlon, rugby, football, cricket, hockey, netball, golf and biathlon. Mike completed his first triathlon in 2006 and he has been involved in the sport ever since, twice being selected for the GB AG team at the European Long Distance Triathlon Championships. He began coaching triathlon in 2008 and he has enjoyed seeing his athletes achieve success in all distances from a sprint race to Ironman. He has coached athletes to win regional series competitions, qualify as a GB Age Groupers and also qualify for Ironman World Championship events.

One of the first questions Mike will ask a prospective athlete is “what does success look like for you?”. For some, this will be completing a 5km run or their first triathlon, for others it may be achieving a GB Age Group selection and for some it could be a world championship medal. Mike provides the same levels of enthusiasm and professional support to all athletes, regardless of what their success looks like.

Backed by a career in education, Mike endeavours to not only coach his athletes, but also help develop the knowledge and understanding of why things are done and the reasoning behind it. With a background in sports science and a keen interest in performance physiology, Mike keeps a watchful eye on modern trends in the sports science and sports performance world and he ensures his athletes are aware of the latest training principles and how they may help improve athletic performance.

Distance is not an issue, Mike coaches athletes locally, but also remotely too, with athletes in the UK, USA and Europe at present. His knowledge, skill base and experiences ensure he is comfortable working with both male and female athletes and he has a strong understanding of the differing physiological requirements of the female athlete. Age is also not an issue with young athletes right through to the older athlete both being well cared for and he has proven successful results from both ends of the age range.

Mike has a very successful record of working with athletes who are over the age of 40 and he fully understands the different approaches and training structures needed to ensure that all athletes can achieve their goals.

Mike’s expert knowledge has enabled me to make many improvements. Never in my dreams did I expect to make the GB Age Group team which has taken me to Denmark in 2017, Glasgow in 2018 and next year I head to Estonia. I have total trust in Mike and feel comfortable asking for any advice which is always explained in a professional and expert manner.

Mike works extremely hard to develop a personalised training plan that is not only easy to follow, but also engaging and exciting. Throughout my time working with Mike, each session has been specifically tailored with my goals in mind. He carefully analyses and critiques the data I present back to him following each session and he offers next steps or alternatives when moving forward.
